How to : Style Yoo Seung Ho’s “Comma Hair”

Yoo Seung Ho comma hair trend how to: style this look

Korean Actor Yoo Seung Ho’s “Comma” Hair

Today I’ll show you how to achieve Korean actor Yoo Seung Ho’s coveted “comma hairstyle” from the Korean drama Remember: War of the Son. This latest hair trend is for the guys out there! I’ll be going through a step-by-step so be sure to follow along…

Tools needed:

  • Hair Dryer

…And that’s it!

Before you start:

Yoo Seung Ho Comma Hair How to: Before you start

Before Starting… REMEMBER THIS PICTURE to see the transformation!!!

This was taken after hair was washed and blow-dried. Ideally, for the perfect “comma hair,” it’s best if your bangs are a little longer than those of the model, whose hair reaches his eyebrows when pulled down. Also, the best time to style your hair is after your hair is freshly washed and about 50 percent dry.

Parting your hair:

Yoo Seung Ho comma hair how to- parting your hair 7:3

Part your hair with a ratio of 7:3

First, be sure to part your hair with a ratio of 7:3. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! You’re front hair must look full to make the perfect C-shaped curl. The direction in which you part your hair may differ, depending on what direction you’re used to. You may use a brush or your hands for this step.

Putting volume in the middle of your part:

Yoo Seung Ho comma hair trend how to: putting volume in your hair

Putting volume in your hair

After parting your hair, it is important to create volume on both sides of the part. Start off by grabbing the middle section of one side of your part and slightly pulling your hand up so that a little “bump” is formed at the top of your head. Make sure your hair dryer’s nozzle is positioned downward. Put hot air on the “bump” with your dryer and then hold it in place for 3 seconds while the heat cools down. Do this 2-3 times for each side of your part.

Drying the front section:

Slightly tug on the roots of the front section of hair

The key to the “Comma hairstyle” is your front hair. To achieve Yoo Seung Ho’s look, you must put volume on both sides of the front section of your hair. To do this, before you start grabbing the hair dryer, tug on the front section of hair to make your roots stand up.

Grab and tug the section of hair up to create a little “bump”

Now you can grab the dryer! Do the same thing you did to create volume to the middle section of your part, except this time instead of pushing the hair up, slightly tug. Grab the front section of hair and tug it up to create a “bump” of hair. Put hot air on this section and hold it there for 2-3 seconds until the heat cools down.

When you’re done putting in all that volume

This is what it should look like when you’re finished putting drying, voluminous and stylish!

The “Comma” :

Use your fingers to create a C-shape and blow hot air onto the section

Now for the star of the show. The most important PART. Yoo Seung Ho’s signature detail for this hairstyle is the rounded, front section of hair. To achieve the most accurate look, using your hands is much preferred. First, take the section of hair you want to curl and use your fingers to make a C-shape, with the hair curling towards the other side of your face. Use your hands to keep it in place. Then take a dryer and put hot air on the section and let it cool down in place for 2-3 seconds. Do the same for the other side of your part, except curl that section to the LEFT.

Finish:

Yoo Seung Ho comma hair trend hot to: dryed hair completed look finished

The completed look

This is the finished look, achieved using only a hair dryer. Now compare this picture to the very first picture you saw of the model. A very different image and style isn’t it? Almost looks like a completely different person. This look only takes about 5 minutes to complete and it emulates Yoo Seung Ho’s chic hairstyle. Be sure to try it out!

Complementing the “Comma” Hair Trend-Male Outfit Dupes

We’ve decided to dedicate our very first series of posts to the males who often find themselves in a style dilemma, but don’t know where to ask. I imagine that it happens more than most would let on, so along comes this article. Our very first series will be for our male readers, but it surely won’t be the last! There’s much to come, but enjoy the first series that we’ll be posting today.

The “comma” hairstyle is a style suited for every occasion-from formal meetings to casual get-togethers. Idols of late seem to love this hairstyle for its versatility, wearing it to almost all their schedules from their press conferences to their radio talk appearences. However, since the hairstyle has the potential of showing many different sides, it’s important to match this hairstyle with an outfit that can compliment it in the best possible way for every occasion. And what better fashion inspiration is there than the very celebrities who started this trend? We’ll be finding the best outfit pairings for this hairstyle by looking at what trending Kpop Idols and Korean Actors wear to compliment this “comma” hairstyle.

  1st Category: Formal Wear

Yoo Seung Ho

It seems that checkered patterned suits are a popular item of choice for celebs rocking the comma hair trend in a formal way. SHINee’s Key and Actor Park Bo Gum from the hit drama Reply 1988, have both made appearances wearing these kinds of suits with their trending hairstyles. Showcasing a more semi-formal appeal, the two Hallyu stars’ outfits shown below would be perfect for casual work meetings.

Yoo Seung Ho

As usual, the classic formal men’s look also matches well with this hairstyle. Really, what hairstyle doesn’t look good with this perfectly simple outfit? The usual black suit and tie is a classic, and adding a coat with a deep red/brown colors would be perfect for fall. This look, worn by Korean Actor Yoo Seung Ho in his drama Remember, shows the common style of men’s formal wear, adding a bit of warm red for the fall. A nice way to add in a bit of color, or at least when you’re outside.

2nd Category: Winter Casual

Park Bo Gum

Got7-Jinyoung

It’s that time of year again. And no, I’m not talking about the long, miserable nights spent shoveling piles of snow in freezing weather, or the tireless voting and frustration that happens when trying to vote for Seventeen during the 2017 MAMAs (Time to reset my 13 different passwords again), although that term would fit in with describing those events as well. As November rolls around, it’s the time of year for all things cozy-hot chocolate, wool blankets, and of course, warm sweaters. The most common fashion trend of this fall/winter seems to be the “comma” hair with a warm knit sweater, being worn from popular idol group members to rising Hallyu actors. Turtleneck sweaters in particular seem to be a growing trend in these cold winter months.

3rd Category: Streetwear

This last pairing is the most commonly seen on idols, such as EXO’s Chanyeol and Seventeen’s Mingyu. Although the style is often worn with a casual bomber jacket or sweater, simpler outfits consisting of a solid colored dress shirt, are also able to complement the hairstyle for a casual look. For more simple/basic street looks, the common trend is to wear a plain T-shirt, jeans, and have a bomber jacket/sweater be the main point of your outfit. However, remember that streetwear really has no limits. Dig around in your closet, mix and match outfits that you think looks best. The possibilities are endless.

Actress Go Jun Hee’s Trending Haircut

Korean actress Go Jun Hee's trending short hair, Korean hairstyle

Actress Go Jun Hee

Recently in Korea, actress Go Jun Hee of the Korean drama She Was Pretty is leading the newest hair trend for women: the short bob. Go Jun Hee’s bob was the highest trending search on Naver sites, and everyone brave enough walked into salons with a picture of her haircut and cut their locks. The bob comes right about to Go Jun Hee’s lips, and is curled for a soft and glamorous image in the picture above. I would recommend this look for those with naturally wavy or curly hair, as the volume would help the look come to life. Not blessed with those waves? No problem. ㅅ.ㅅ     To achieve this look, all you need is a straightener or curling wand. If you want to go the extra mile, you could also C-curl perm the ends of your hair to avoid having to do your hair every morning.

Why is Go Jun Hee’s hair such a trending hairstyle? Well, perhaps it’s the fall weather, calling in change for a new haircut. Maybe it’s the fact that we want to get rid of dead, dyed hair and have strong, luscious locks in preparation for summer. Or maybe because the hairstyle suits those with all different hair textures. Whatever the reason, maybe you can try this hairstyle the next time you go in for a new do. Don’t have the courage? Don’t worry, hair always grows back and you never know… it could be the best decision you made hair-wise. Gather the courage, you can do it!

Comment below if you’ve recently gathered the courage to chop your locks!
