The”Cuff” Fashion Trend-SEVENTEEN

Today’s post is going to be showing the recent fashion trend that Seventeen has been able to pick up recently in a lot of their performances, which is the “cuff trend.” The rising fashion trend is to wear sweaters and formal shirts with a strong emphasis on the cuffs of the article of clothing. We’ll be looking through all 13 of the Seventeen members and their take on the cuff trend. While most of their shirts with the special cuffs are formal, there’s a few denim jackets sweaters spread out in the gallery with unique cuffs as well, so keep your eyes peeled and see how you might be able to incorporate the cuff trend into your everyday look!

S.Coups wears the cuff trend in two different ways here. The first picture showing a dark colored formal shirt that has large, floppy cuffs with butons to emphasize the fashion point, while in the second picture he wears a large, oversize button-up that has a bit more of a relaxed feel. This one also has longer cuffs.

I just want to start off by saying that while I am Jisoo biased, I seriously could find the most pictures of him, so just wanted to say that I tried to be fair. My bias is a bit harder to hide here. The first picture shows a longer cuff on a washed denim fabric. It gives a very casual feel to the look. The next three pictures show a more formal take on the trend, with the collar on a couple of them giving another dimension of focus, so the cuffs aren’t as distracting.

Mingyu wears the cuff trend with another formal, baby-blue shirt, that has different patterns along the chest and shoulder area. It gives the eyes something else to look at, rather than just the two large cuffs.

The8 also wears the fashion in two different ways, the first being a regular white dress shirt with slightly longer cuffs, and the second being a white and denim button-down with loose, unbuttoned cuffs. They’re a perfect look for those who want to try the trend in a more casual way.

Junhui wears the trend in a different way than the ones we’ve seen so far. Rather than having the cuffs hanging loose and the sides, he folds them up, utilizing the longer cuffs to show off another unique look. There’s also the plus of not having to roll the cuffs up a hundred times.

Dokyeom wears the look with a nice, plain white dress shirt. This shirt has cuffs that are just slightly longer than the usual, so it shouldn’t be too distracting when going through the day.

Hoshi wears this trend in another unique way, with a large, oversize, white-denim jacket that has extrememly large and long cuffs. It gives off a lot of street vibes, while also being cute.

Woozi and Seungkwan wear the promotion outfits from one of the music show performances, which is a grey and pink dress shirt with the large cuffs. It’s a unique combination of colors to wear with the trend, and it again treats the eyes in terms of more variation.

Dino wears the trend similar to Jun, with the cuffs rolles up. However, here he pairs it with a tie and checkered pants, which add a bit of color and pattern to the outfit. His cuffs are also rolled up a bit tighter than Jun’s were, which looks a bit less casual and more formal.

Vernon wears a smiliar shirt to Mingyu’s, with long and floppy cuffs on the blue dress-shirt, but it seems that his has less design variations on the rest of his shirt. This bring more attention to the cuffs, and it doesn’t get too boring, since his brown and platinum blonde hair already give plenty to look at.

Jeonghan wears the trend with a white dress shirt with black accents, which spices the look up a bit. It also helps to balance out the excessive amount of light colors from the shirt and his hair.

Wonwoo (ft. Soonyoung and Seungcheol) wears the trend like Hoshi did before, with a flannel jacket. The only difference is that the flannel sweater has slightly shorter cuffs, along with another layers underneath.

That’s it for today’s overview for fashion trends! Which member’s style would you want to try and copy most? Comment below!

Seventeen 5th Mini Album- “Al1”

Seventeen released their 5th mini-album “Al1” on May 22nd, and once again, the group was noted to have been heaviliy involved in the album’s making. Their nickname as the “self-producing idols” only becomes further solidified as they release more and more music.

The album “Al1” is a different step from the boys’ trademark style. Instead of the usual funk-pop and background screams by Woozi, “Al1” is mainly composed of smooth EDM mixes, kind of what you would hear in Forever 21 as you dig through the piles of clothes. The mini-album consists of 6 new songs, not including the CD-only songs “WHO” and “Check-In Remastered.” Those two songs are smartly saved for those that are willing to pay, I guess. Let’s dig into the 6 new tracks that showcase Seventeen’s new sound!

“Al1” Track 01. 울고 싶지 않아-Don’t Wanna Cry

Lyrics: WOOZI, BUMZU, S.COUPS, HOSHI, JEONGHAN / Composition: WOOZI, BUMZU / Arrangement: BUMZU

(Before we start, just wanted to add that this is Jeonghan’s official debut as a lyricist!!!) Don’t Wanna Cry is the title track of “Al1,” and it’s a personal favorite. Seventeen took a huge step from their chipper funk-pop, and took a 180-degree turn into the world of EDM. Although I’m sure Woozi will be up and running in a few hours with his rehearsed and forever-memorized script for the new track, I’ll be giving a quick overview of the new style.

Don’t Wanna Cry is described as an “oriental EDM track,” but I honestly don’t see a whole lot of oriental in it. It is EDM focused, with violin and bass accompaniments. It describes the feelings that one goes through as they try to find their loved one from the past, after a breakup.

I think it’s my favorite title track of Seventeen, maybe from all of 2017, but that could just be me being biased. It’s either this or Mansae. EDM isn’t usually something I actively listen to, but after listening to this song, I think I’ll be looking into more of this kind of music. If anyone was wondering, the choreography, by Hoshi, is also great. It’s wonderfully unique from most idol choreographies, and is definetely one of my favorite idol group choreographies. 10/10 would reccomend. Go check out the MV, which has over 1 million views is 13 hours!

“Al1” Track 02. 입버릇- Habit/Abuse

Lyrics: WOOZI / Composition: WOOZI, Simon Petren / Arrangement: Simon Petren

This is the vocal team’s track for the album. Again, I feel like these kinds of ballad songs are Seventeen’s specialty. Seventeen, particularly Woozi, have a talent with their lyrics and melodies.  All their albums have a share of experimental music, but cafe and ballads are something that are so comfortable to listen to from them. It starts out as a very soft R&B sound, but it climaxes quickly to the chorus, which almost sound like their song “Love Letter,” only a slightly emo and depressing version.

“Al1” Track 03. IF I

Lyrics: S.COUPS, Mingyu, Vernon / Composition: BUMZU / Arranger: BUMZU

“IF I” is the hip-hop team’s track for “Al1,” and highlights the harmonization of EDM and hip-hop being infused. Like the rest of the album, it rides on the EDM theme, and tones down the feel, with softer sounds and vocals. Wonwoo’s singing is making another comeback in this song, and so are Mingyu’s well-deserved lines. It’s probably the most time Mingyu has gotten in the hip-hop team’s songs, so Mingyu stans can celebrate.

“Al1” Track 04. Swimming Fool

Lyrics: WOOZI, BUMZU, Vernon, Dino / Composition: WOOZI, BUMZU, Hoshi / Arrangement: BUMZU

Swimming Fool is the track taken by the Performance team of Seventeen, and let me start of by saying that it won’t get anymore EDM/Forever 21 than this track. I’m pretty sure Forever 21 has already bought millions of ‘Al1″ albums to play in every single one of their stores, and I’m going to be sorely disappointed if that doesn’t actually happen. There’s literaly nothing to describe this track other than EDM. It’s a perfect summer track, which I’ll be playing all summer long, and you all should be doing the same. I’m curious to see what the choreography for this track will be like!

“Al1” Track 05. MY I

Lyrics: BUMZU, The8, Jun / Composition: WOOZI, BUMZU / Arrangement: BUMZU

CHINA LINE. THE WAIT IS OVER. ITS HERE. ALL THE DAESANGS HAVE BEEN SNATCHED.

Okay, excitement put aside, let’s apprecate how the two Chinese members of Seventeen put the effort in writing lyrics for a Korean song. I’m pretty sure there’s not another Chinese member of any group that’s been able to do that, or not that I know of. Correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t even know if I can write Korean lyrics like that, and I (think and kinda hope) know more Korean than they do.

“MY I” is also an EDM track, although it’s got a little more of the bass and drums showcased in the background as well. The song sounded different from a lot of other songs, since we aren’t usually able to really hear how the Chinese line of Seventeen sound like. Their voices are so nice, and they fit in perfectly with the EDM track.

“Al1” Track 06. Crazy in Love

I have no idea why, but “Crazy in Love” reminds me of some 70s/80s song that I don’t currently remember. Either way, it sounds great. EDM was once again carried out in the song, which is with all 13 of the members, but there was a lot more vocal showcasing in this track, despite it being more of an EDM-focused track. DK and Seungkwan took the lead for the chorus, and the two main vocals, along with Woozi, have a near-falsetto style that I absolutely love.

IDOL INSPIRATION: Seventeen Woozi’s Fashion

Today’s fashion inspiration post will be centered around Seventeen’s Woozi! Also, just as a sidenote, I will be starting a new theme, which is to post style inspiration from differen idols, and I’ll be starting with Seventeen. The main goal of these posts is to try and find the idol that most fits your personal preference, so it’s easier to find a go-to outfit inspiration.

Woozi may be famous for his shorter height and cute looks, but as many Carats will know, his personality is almost the polar opposite of his appearence. World’s #1 aegyo and skinship hater, in addition to being a very articulate and somewhat intimidating producer/composer. He’s a man of few words, but when he does speak, we know every one of the Seventeen members make sure that they listen. I feel like his fashion seems to speak the same way.

We can usually tell the difference between when Woozi dresses himself, and when a sylist dresses him. Stylists seem to love to put polka dots, pink, hawaiian print, and all sorts of  eye-popping outfits. However, Woozi’s personal style is the opposite of this. Simplistic, but it leaves an impression. Unlike the usual flashy outfits that most idols like to sport, Woozi seems to favor very casual styles, trying to blend in as much as he can: basic patterns and oversize clothing, particularly sweater paws. Another unique part of his fashion is how he prefers looser-fitting jeans or pants over the usual skin-tight idol jeans. Check out a few of the images below, and see if his style would is similar with yours!

So, what are the main points of Seventeen’s Woozi’s fashion?

  • Oversize sweaters
  • Neutral/Dark Tones with hints of color
  • Basic patterns/Solid Colors
  • Sweater Paws(!)
  • Loose-fitting pants
  • Baseball cap + Mask

That’s all for the overview of Woozi’s fashion! I personally really love his approach to fashion, it helps to match his appearence with his personality. Since he has a more basic approach to fashion, it’s also a lot easier to follow his style as well. Try it out for yourself, and see how you like it!
