2017 Fashion Trend-Lettering

The recent trend for 2017 is the lettering “trend,” where the main point of the look is to have a t-shirt with bold letters. Although this trend has been around for a while now, it’s been making a comeback again! Idols are wearing a lot more plain tees with letters as well. “Lettering” used to be nearly nonexistent last year because of the graphic tee fashion, but it seems to be making a stronger comeback this year! Most wear white or black tees in order for the letters to stand out, but you can choose whatever style tee you want. Check out a couple of idols’ “lettering” fashion in the gallery below!

Hyuna

Hyuna’s been seen sporting this look multiple times. Her sweater’s turtleneck helps to add a bit more dimension to the plain sweater. And it looks like she personlized her second tee! Was this worn during Troublemaker promotions?

Red Velvet Irene

Irene took mixed the oversize fashion trend with the lettering trend. Her sweater looks perfectly comfortable and stylish for a long plane ride.

Red Velvet Seulgi

Seulgi takes the bold lettering on a collared shirt, which gives the white canvas some life. The length of the shirt also helps to add additional styling to her strightforward look.

SM Rookies

Here, the stars take a very simplistic approach to the trend. Minimal designs, basic colors, and bold letters.

Seventeen Woozi

Woozi takes a different approach from the others. Instead of having the letters printed on the front of his tee, he opts to have it on his sleeve.

Seventeen Joshua

Joshua, as well as the rest of Seventeen during Mansae, took plain suits and added a nametag of sorts to give off a more casual vibe. Most of us probably don’t have our own personal name tag at home, but it’s worth taking a note of the unique twist to the trend.

Monsta X Hyungwon

Hyunwon takes a minimalistic approach to the trend here as well. One thing to note is the size of his letters. While most use bold lettering on their tees, Hyunwon shows here that smaller print can have its own place in the “lettering” trend.

Yoo In Na

Although she’s not an idol, I thought I’d add the “Goblin” star in here too. She takes a very glamorous approach to “lettering,” pairing the tee with a trench coat and bright lavendar heels. It’s definetely a harder look, but she manages to pull it off.

K.A.R.D’s Fashion Throughout the Comebacks

K.A.R.Dohnanarumordon'trecallkpopgroupfirstkpopcoedgroupofficialdebutmidjulykpopfashionkardfashioncoedgroup

DSP Media’s recent project-group K.A.R.D will reportedly be making their official debut, after about 6 months as being a project co-ed group. Despite coming from a relatively small company, K.A.R.D has experienced success overseas as well as in Korea. The group has had 3 releases so far, “Oh Na Na,” “Don’t Recall,” and “RUMOR.” After 6 months of releases without music show promotions, it’s been reported that they will debut in mid-July.

Before their upcoming debut, should we go over their outfit concepts from the past 3 releases?

For their first “pre-release” single, “Oh Na Na,” the stylists made sure to focus on black colors and leathers. It seems to be reminiscent of the L.A street fashion that you could find in the 90s. For the girls, fishnet stockings, knee-high socks, and killer high stilletos make the fashion all about the legs. As for the overall group fashion concept, black and leather are really the highlights of this era’s fashion. Unless, of course, you’re willing to pull out a fur scarf in the middle of the summer. Other than that, just make sure to remember the excessive leather, black colors, and if you’re a girl, knee-high anything with stilletos.

“Don’t Recall” brought a new sound, and along that comes a change in fashion! Most of the music video was shot in their second shot, with their all-white outfits. Like, the name suggests, the fashion for this shot is mainly to wear all-white but keep these points in mind. For guys, either wear a button-down shirt or something casual with a necklace to change the look to a more classy look. For girls, try fusing casual looks with formal blazers. Don’t forget your shoes and legs too! The fishnet and stilleto concept is still here, just in all-white!

For the other outfits of Don’t Recall, there’s a few points to keep in mind as well. The leather was replaced with velvet-textured suits for the guys, and glittery and metallic dresses for the girls! B.M and J.Seph wear formal wear, but in such bright colors that it almost seems casual. Somin and Jiwoo are still wearing their black stilletos and fishnet stockings, but now they’ve changed their casual streetwear to metallic-textured dresses and glittery dresses. They match black sequins with white floral patterns.

For their final comeback before their official debut, the group went two completely different ways with their fashion for the song “RUMOR.” In the first photo, we see them sporting what seems to be a classed-up version of military fashion. The dark-green is kept in all of their outfits, but each member wears it differently. While B.M and Jiwoo choose to wear tye-dye bomber jackets to add color and have all different textures, Somin and J.Seph are wearing outfits with the same color and similar texture all the way down. Notice that their shoes are all black, but varying textures and styles.

In the second photo, we can see the group styling themselves in more formal wear for the song. Jiwoo and J.Seph wear plain white tees with black pants, with flashy, sequined jackets being their fashion’s killing point. Somin and B.M wear all black, but their clothes seem to have more variation in style. Deep cuts, frills, and waves highlight the two’s fashion.

The”Cuff” Fashion Trend-SEVENTEEN

Today’s post is going to be showing the recent fashion trend that Seventeen has been able to pick up recently in a lot of their performances, which is the “cuff trend.” The rising fashion trend is to wear sweaters and formal shirts with a strong emphasis on the cuffs of the article of clothing. We’ll be looking through all 13 of the Seventeen members and their take on the cuff trend. While most of their shirts with the special cuffs are formal, there’s a few denim jackets sweaters spread out in the gallery with unique cuffs as well, so keep your eyes peeled and see how you might be able to incorporate the cuff trend into your everyday look!

S.Coups wears the cuff trend in two different ways here. The first picture showing a dark colored formal shirt that has large, floppy cuffs with butons to emphasize the fashion point, while in the second picture he wears a large, oversize button-up that has a bit more of a relaxed feel. This one also has longer cuffs.

I just want to start off by saying that while I am Jisoo biased, I seriously could find the most pictures of him, so just wanted to say that I tried to be fair. My bias is a bit harder to hide here. The first picture shows a longer cuff on a washed denim fabric. It gives a very casual feel to the look. The next three pictures show a more formal take on the trend, with the collar on a couple of them giving another dimension of focus, so the cuffs aren’t as distracting.

Mingyu wears the cuff trend with another formal, baby-blue shirt, that has different patterns along the chest and shoulder area. It gives the eyes something else to look at, rather than just the two large cuffs.

The8 also wears the fashion in two different ways, the first being a regular white dress shirt with slightly longer cuffs, and the second being a white and denim button-down with loose, unbuttoned cuffs. They’re a perfect look for those who want to try the trend in a more casual way.

Junhui wears the trend in a different way than the ones we’ve seen so far. Rather than having the cuffs hanging loose and the sides, he folds them up, utilizing the longer cuffs to show off another unique look. There’s also the plus of not having to roll the cuffs up a hundred times.

Dokyeom wears the look with a nice, plain white dress shirt. This shirt has cuffs that are just slightly longer than the usual, so it shouldn’t be too distracting when going through the day.

Hoshi wears this trend in another unique way, with a large, oversize, white-denim jacket that has extrememly large and long cuffs. It gives off a lot of street vibes, while also being cute.

Woozi and Seungkwan wear the promotion outfits from one of the music show performances, which is a grey and pink dress shirt with the large cuffs. It’s a unique combination of colors to wear with the trend, and it again treats the eyes in terms of more variation.

Dino wears the trend similar to Jun, with the cuffs rolles up. However, here he pairs it with a tie and checkered pants, which add a bit of color and pattern to the outfit. His cuffs are also rolled up a bit tighter than Jun’s were, which looks a bit less casual and more formal.

Vernon wears a smiliar shirt to Mingyu’s, with long and floppy cuffs on the blue dress-shirt, but it seems that his has less design variations on the rest of his shirt. This bring more attention to the cuffs, and it doesn’t get too boring, since his brown and platinum blonde hair already give plenty to look at.

Jeonghan wears the trend with a white dress shirt with black accents, which spices the look up a bit. It also helps to balance out the excessive amount of light colors from the shirt and his hair.

Wonwoo (ft. Soonyoung and Seungcheol) wears the trend like Hoshi did before, with a flannel jacket. The only difference is that the flannel sweater has slightly shorter cuffs, along with another layers underneath.

IU “Palette” MV Fashion

IU recently had a comeback with her title track “Palette,” featuring none other than GD himself! To no one’s surpirse, the two artists’ star power and musical ingenious easiliy earned them an all-kill and over 20 million views. In addition to the music and lyrics, many viewers, including myself, appreciated the visual aesthetics, as well as the production.  The clothes that we’ll show you today were featured in the music video and were a large part of the visual aesthetic of the music video. Let’s take a look at a few of the outfits IU wore to show her mature side in IU “Palette! MV Fashion!”

IU “Palette” MV Fashion

First, we’ll start off with one of the most iconic looks from “Palette.” IU takes on a modern office look, only using the oversize blazer and blouse to make her outfit look more casual. In addition to her top, the bootcut jeans, which I”ve completely ignored for a while now, have made a comeback in her MV. They add a fun, adventurous feel to the workplace look. She’s able to turn the modern look into a sort of retro-vibe outfit, with the addition of a must-have accessory, her yellow-tinted sunglasses.

Next, IU takes on a more innocent and youthful look, with a flared chiffon-blue dress. It gives major spring-summer vibes, and would look perfect on a spring day outside.

The classic light-blue skinny jeans and loose white tee are in every aesthetic MV, and IU’s “Palette” is no exception! It’s hard to go wrong with such a classic look. I think almost everyone can agree that this look never gets old.

Finally, the last look that we’ll be looking at is from the ending seen of the MV. Here, she wears a thin, light pink sweater that is cropped only on one side of the sweater. It’s interesting, but not exactly necessary. There’s probably some unwriteen rule in Kpop, where every look in a music video has to have some sort of unique concept. So, the sweater took one for the team in this one. Not that we’re complaining. The soft-spoken sweater is paired with a blue, sequined skirt. The two contrasts balance each other out for the perfect look.

IDOL INSPIRATION: Seventeen Woozi’s Fashion

Today’s fashion inspiration post will be centered around Seventeen’s Woozi! Also, just as a sidenote, I will be starting a new theme, which is to post style inspiration from differen idols, and I’ll be starting with Seventeen. The main goal of these posts is to try and find the idol that most fits your personal preference, so it’s easier to find a go-to outfit inspiration.

Woozi may be famous for his shorter height and cute looks, but as many Carats will know, his personality is almost the polar opposite of his appearence. World’s #1 aegyo and skinship hater, in addition to being a very articulate and somewhat intimidating producer/composer. He’s a man of few words, but when he does speak, we know every one of the Seventeen members make sure that they listen. I feel like his fashion seems to speak the same way.

We can usually tell the difference between when Woozi dresses himself, and when a sylist dresses him. Stylists seem to love to put polka dots, pink, hawaiian print, and all sorts of  eye-popping outfits. However, Woozi’s personal style is the opposite of this. Simplistic, but it leaves an impression. Unlike the usual flashy outfits that most idols like to sport, Woozi seems to favor very casual styles, trying to blend in as much as he can: basic patterns and oversize clothing, particularly sweater paws. Another unique part of his fashion is how he prefers looser-fitting jeans or pants over the usual skin-tight idol jeans. Check out a few of the images below, and see if his style would is similar with yours!

So, what are the main points of Seventeen’s Woozi’s fashion?

  • Oversize sweaters
  • Neutral/Dark Tones with hints of color
  • Basic patterns/Solid Colors
  • Sweater Paws(!)
  • Loose-fitting pants
  • Baseball cap + Mask

That’s all for the overview of Woozi’s fashion! I personally really love his approach to fashion, it helps to match his appearence with his personality. Since he has a more basic approach to fashion, it’s also a lot easier to follow his style as well. Try it out for yourself, and see how you like it!
